Donna Schiltz, Special Education K-3
Why Whitewater? Whitewater has the warmth of a small town and the spirit and dynamics provided by the university. I grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago and have always enjoyed the cultural opportunities, fests, and plays of the big city. By living and working in Whitewater, I have the opportunity to live in a peaceful, country setting and still take advantage of the events and performances provided at UWW.

I am a special education teacher at LINCS School who provides educational and behavioral support to special education students in grades K through 3. It is a cross-categorical program supporting students who are learning disabled (LD), emotional-behavioral disordered (EBD), autistic or aspergers (A), cognitively disabled (CD), or other health impaired (OHI).

I provide educational support in the areas of reading, written language, spelling, and math, depending on students' needs addressed in their individual educational programs (IEPs). I also provide support for students with behavioral needs. Support may be provided in a special education classroom or in a regular education classroom through inclusion. I believe in establishing positive relationships with students and practicing the principles of Love and Logic.

My goal as a special educator is to evaluate students' learning styles and provide the educational and/or behavioral strategies to help each child be more successful in school. I strive to boost students' self-esteem and motivation to learn. I encourage parent/guardian support at home so students can retain the academic and behavioral successes made at school.

I have 31 years of teaching experience at different grade levels. I received my BS at Illinois State University and my MA at St. Xavier College in Chicago. I have taught in Illinois, New York, Spain (with the Department of Defense Dependent Schools- DODDS), and I am now starting my 10th year at LINCS! I love working with students and sharing the joy of their successes!

My husband Ron and I have a daughter Sarah, who is beginning 10th grade at Whitewater High School this year. We have a maltese (Lucy) who we adore! I enjoy reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

If you have questions or concerns about your child's program or progress in school, please don't hesitate to call or email me!
